Hi, I’m Erin Shakoor and I’ve designed Room 4, “The Continuum,” here at the Kips Bay Show House Palm Beach 2025.
Incorporating natural stone is always the way to go because it’s the gift that keeps on giving. Everyday it looks a little bit different, different times of day and so that’s what makes it feel like it's natural, it fits into any environment. You can easily tie it into a color palette, you can retrofit it into a space very easily. When you make the right choice in stone, so many things can happen with the finished surface of natural stone that makes it an appropriate choice for almost any room in a house.
The vision for the room came from my desire to create a space that had a very intense and bold masculine, feminine energy and something that, I thought this bathroom needed was a viola slab and it turned out that the viola slab was almost giving too much energy, as I like to say, too much sauce so we had to back off the sauce a little bit and come in with something that was subtle, but had a striking visual to it and black and white always does, but finding just the right veining and a slab of Nero Marquina was super easy and then we just had to kind of configure this sexy, cool shape around the veining that was in the slab.
I would tell other designers and homeowners that Primestones is like the ultimate place to make selections very easily, and I would say that there’s something there for every situation, every application because they have such a wide range of materials and finishes.
