Jim Dove of Jim Dove Design brought the vivacious and vibrant appeal that The Monkey Bar in New York City once had to the den at the 2022 Kips Bay Decorator Show House. With locations in New Jersey and Palm Beach, Dove has made a name in the industry by executing exquisite and distinct designs. From the bold monkey print wallpaper to the striking backlit bar, made using our Cristallo Sunshine Quartzite, you can certainly see Dove’s unique and brilliant work executed once again. Backlighting, an increasingly popular addition to translucent stones, gave the wow-factor that brought the room to life and his vision to light.

(Q) What is Kips Bay to you? What does it mean to be a designer for this showhouse?
A: Kips Bay is a great organization, it helps the boys and girls of New York City and West Palm Beach. I was a Kips Bay designer in 2019 in New York City. It really changed my design life. I’m in Palm Beach now because of Kips Bay.

(Q) Tell us about your room and the inspiration behind the design?
A: I called the room ‘The Monkey Bar’, my inspiration was the monkey bar in New York City, a famous bar. You’ll see De Gournay Deco monkey wallpaper in the beautiful terra cotta, black, teal, yellow and white and with those colors I was able to create the space. I want everyone to be joyful as they tour my room. I think happiness is my most important factor in creating the space for the public.

(Q) What did the Primestones product help you to accomplish in your overall design? What drew you to the stone you selected?
A: Primestones showroom is spectacular. We were there touring with the helpful staff and the product we chose had the warm tones and the colors that we were using in the wallpaper and the drapery which we selected previously to touring the beautiful showroom.
